Opera Next – a new browser with a webkit(Blink a fork) engine !

Opera Next 15 is the new browser from opera which is now in beta stage just opened for the public, quite stable and easy to use and also installs pretty quickly on any windows machine. This version easily installs with opera 12.15 and has many changes under the hood.

The major news surrounding Opera Next 15 is the switch from its own Presto proprietary web rendering engine(the previous known version was Carakan) to Google’s open-source Chromium engine known as Webkit or Blink, which is nothing but a fork of it.

Features:-

Two new features added to Opera Next 15 are Discover and Stash. Discover provides users with a place where they can set localization and other preferences in order to be fed relevant content — including news — from a single place. Meanwhile, Stash is designed to make comparing websites easier by allowing users to press a heart button in order to collect together a group of related sites for comparing. Users scan quickly scan the Stash via a resizable page preview, or search all sites within the Stash using keywords.

Opera Next updates every once a week and there is no automatic way to do that, there is no button. The button has been removed so that the opera servers do not get hammered. The only way is to do it manually and for that you need to click the link below.

Some Features:-

  • Browse with style

Opera’s interface combines precision and quality. Integrating modern style with powerful features, Opera gives you the freedom to truly open the web and explore.

  • Search and navigate easily

Opera has one intuitive, powerful location for searching and navigating the web. Search using multiple providers and view site suggestions as you type.

  • Speed up on slow networks

Off-Road mode compresses pages for faster, all-conditions browsing. It helps you stay online when your connection slows down.

    Organize your favorites

An enhanced Speed Dial groups your top-visited sites directly on a custom start page. Quickly search and access your favorite content with refined searching and grouping options.

Lastly, Opera has now removed the built-in mail client from the browser and has turned it into a standalone client that you will need to download separately.

In my short time of using it, I noticed that the new Opera 15 loaded pages incredibly fast and the page compatibility was also quite good. Running some basic benchmark tests also revealed that Opera 15 smoked both Chrome 27 as well as Safari 6, despite running on a similar rendering engine. And this is just the beta version; the final version is likely to be better. Overall, the new version of Opera seems quite promising and is definitely worth a try. Note that Opera Next 15 is available for Windows and Mac only and Linux is still under development, so do not expect a linux version so early yet.
